Barbie Trunks and Cases
| As Barbie transformed from black and red Vintage to the neon Mod Era, so did her storage cases and trunks take on a more psychedelic
aspect. Unlikely color combinations, like neon pink and orange, were intermingled with limes and purples for an intense effect. Backgrounds became Poster Art and Op Art, known for
their illusions of movement and billowing exaggeration.
Notice the ballooning soft curves of the abstract designs, and the oversized flowers reminiscent of the Summer of Love? As one of many girls who eschewed tradition and wore a ring of flowers in our hair at high school graduation, the graphics on these cases are especially appealing to me. |
